Questions
Does my statement get uploaded anywhere?
No. The PDF is opened and read by JavaScript inside your own browser. The file never leaves your device. During the free beta, nothing about your file or its transactions is sent to our server.
Which statements work?
Text-based PDF statements with a transaction table (date, description, amount, often a running balance) are what it reads. Credit card statements with a similar table may work too. Scanned PDFs are not supported yet. Check the preview table against your statement before downloading.
What if my PDF is a scanned image?
Scanned or photographed statements have no text layer, and are not supported yet. The tool will tell you if a file looks scanned. Download the original PDF from your bank website instead, which almost always has a text layer.
How much does it cost?
RowSmith is free while in beta, with no account needed. A paid plan may be added later.
Can I import the result into QuickBooks, Xero or YNAB?
After converting, choose the QuickBooks, Xero or YNAB layout in the dropdown, download the CSV, then use that app’s own import option. Downloads are CSV or Excel only. For Google Sheets, use File, Import and upload the CSV.
Why does the first Excel download load a file?
The first time you download Excel, the page loads our spreadsheet library from this same site. No statement data is sent; your file is still read and converted only in your browser.
