Questions
What file does YNAB file import expect?
Choose the YNAB layout. It gives a CSV with Date (MM/DD/YYYY), Payee, Memo, Outflow and Inflow columns, with the description in Payee and Memo left empty. Import it into the matching account in YNAB. RowSmith is not affiliated with YNAB.
How are dates formatted?
Standard exports use YYYY-MM-DD. The QuickBooks and YNAB layouts use MM/DD/YYYY, and the Xero layout uses DD/MM/YYYY. Years come from the statement period, including statements that run from December into January.
Can I import months my bank no longer shows online?
Yes, if you have the PDF. The converter reads any text-based statement PDF you have saved, whatever its date, and you can import the CSV into your app. How far back you can download statements depends on your bank.
Is my data sent to YNAB or to you?
Neither. RowSmith doesn’t connect to YNAB, and your statement isn’t sent to us. The PDF is read in your browser, and you import the downloaded CSV into YNAB yourself. Nothing about your file is sent to our server. RowSmith is not affiliated with YNAB.
Why does the first Excel download load a file?
The first time you download Excel, the page loads our spreadsheet library from this same site. No statement data is sent; your file is still read and converted only in your browser.
RowSmith is an independent tool and is not affiliated with any bank.
